Student Photography Exhibition

Art @ rUH

The Old Bakery Artists are opening an exciting new exhibition at The RUH this month. This popular group of artists hails from across the rural area immediately to the South of Bath, from Wells in the West to Wellow in the East. It is fitting that their new exhibition explores every aspect of being “On The Periphery”. The exhibition also features the Holburne Portrait Winner, David Fisher’s portrait of Philip Ledbury (until 22 Feb).

Rolling Stones
Castle Galleries in Bath is putting a one-off, limited edition collection of signed photographic art of the band’s early years by renowned photographer Philip Townsend up for sale this month. www.castlegalleries.com

The Living Candala Collection

A unique range of greetings cards, Giclée prints and canvases by Lizzie Davies with photographs by Peter J Stone ARPS. On display at the RUH in the central ground floor corridors (until 22 Feb).

Porthmeor

Peter Lanyon was one of the leading artists of the St Ives School, and taught at Bath Academy of Art. His work was inspired by the landscape and seascape around St Ives. The star of the show at The Victoria Art Gallery is a 10-metre long oil painting commissioned by an American collector, which has never previously been on public display (until 4 Jan).  www.victoriagal.org.uk

Of a Feather
The 61 wood engravings in this exhibition form an avian alphabet, from Abandonment of Cuckoos through Tiding of Magpies to Zephyr of Longtailed Titmice. Antoni Tàpies – Graphic Work
Antoni Tàpies is considered to be Spain’s greatest living artist. Born in Barcelona, he has been producing work since the 1940s, using an extraordinarily inventive artistic technique. With these prints, the exhibition also offers an insight into Tàpies’ oeuvre as a

Mhairi McGregor: New Works

In Colour: John Eaves Retrospective

Vibrant compositions in oil, watercolour, collage and ceramic dazzle the viewer in this show by one of our most distinguished local artists. A Place to Rest the Head: Traditional Headrests in Chinese Culture
This exhibition explores the use of headrests and pillows in Chinese culture and the beliefs that were associated with the design on pillows. This exhibition showcases pillows in a range of materials including wood and ceramic, there is also a chance to use a headrest and experience how these pillows would have been used (until April 26). A Nomad’s Tale: A Photographic Exhibition
Muñoz’s natural, unobtrusive eye and documentary-style photography portray local African and Asian communities. This exhibition presents a new body of work, inspired by Mongolia, Here, Muñoz turns his photographic lens to remote villages and nomadic life in Mongolia, a country in which nomadic tradition has been at the core of its history (until 26 April). Bath Fine Art

January welcomes the arrival of some fantastic new bronze sculpture to Bath Fine Art. The talented father and daughter duo, Michael and Rachel Talbot bring a new body of work to the gallery. Michael specialises in figurative sculpture, while Rachel creates characters inspired by her love of children’s literature. www.bathfneart.com

Peter Blake CBE RA

Small Harbours of the Borders
Focusing on contemporary landscapes, former Corsham resident Barbara Lewis has successfully exhibited in major galleries such as The Laing Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne.
